Coal Canyon is the rocky, technical side of the Spearhead system - rated for intermediate to advanced riders, with a few green loops near the trailhead. Worth a day trip from the lodge for the canyon-rim overlooks alone. Riders can also connect from the Ridgeview Trail system through Breaks Interstate Park straight into Coal Canyon - no trailering required.

The Original Pocahontas Trail is where the Spearhead Trails network began. Located near Pocahontas, VA, it offers a mix of forest roads, ridge runs, and valley crossings across reclaimed mine land. It is a good day-trip option for guests staying at Flannagan Lodge who want to sample another part of the Spearhead system. Permits, helmets, and machine rules are the same as the rest of the Spearhead network.
